Tube Bending for Pharmaceutical Plants

High-purity stainless tube bent to a documented, traceable process.

What pharmaceutical work brings to a bending shop

Water for injection and purified water loops, clean steam lines, process transfer tube, and the high-purity runs between vessels and skids.

Pharmaceutical work is a documentation discipline with a pipe attached. The bend has to be right, but what decides acceptance is whether every step of how it was made can be traced afterwards. Material traceability, surface finish and the absence of anything that can hold product are the three things a validation reviewer will look for.

Codes and standards: ASME BPE for bioprocessing equipment, plus customer and validation requirements that usually go further than any code. Send your project specification with the enquiry and we will confirm in writing what we certify against before anything is cut.

Traceability starts at the enquiry

Material test reports, heat numbers, positive material identification and the certificates that tie them to the finished part all have to be planned from the start. Retrofitting a documentation package onto a bend that has already been made is slow and sometimes impossible.

PMI and elemental analysis are both available here, and the shop bends stainless, Hastelloy, Alloy 6XN, titanium and nickel-bearing alloys among others.

What to send with a pharmaceutical enquiry

Five numbers describe a bend: outside diameter, wall thickness, centerline radius, bend angle and the tangent length on each end. Add the material and the quantity and the job can be priced. A drawing, a sketch or a photograph of a marked-up print all work, and the quote form takes an attachment up to 25 MB.

For pharmaceutical work, send the documentation requirements first and the geometry second. Material test reports, heat numbers, positive material identification and the certificates that tie them to the finished part all have to be planned from the start. Surface finish and the absence of anything that can hold product are the other two things a validation reviewer will look for.

Put the documentation requirements in the enquiry rather than in a later email. Material test reports, non-destructive testing and heat treatment all cost money and time. Retrofitting a documentation package onto a bend that has already been made is slow, and sometimes it is impossible.

Questions we get from pharmaceutical buyers

Can you provide full material traceability?

Yes, where it is specified at enquiry stage. Material test reports, heat numbers and positive material identification are all available. Retrofitting them onto a finished part is slow and sometimes impossible, so send the requirements with the enquiry.

Do you bend high-purity stainless tube?

Yes. Stainless is one of the shop materials and cold bending puts no heat into the part. Tell us the surface finish requirement, because it changes the tooling and the lubrication.

Can you work to ASME BPE?

Send your specification with the enquiry and we will confirm in writing what we can certify against before anything is cut. Where a specification goes beyond the codes the shop routinely works to, settling that at quote stage is the right time.
